Competition: DOD and Timorous Beasties

Doors Open Days might be over for this year but don’t worry, we’ve still got another competition for you to enter! We’ve teamed up with Timorous Beasties to give you the chance to win one of their stunning thistle cushions.

All you have to do is have a think about what you did this year at Doors Open Days and tell us in one sentence about your favourite part of Scotland’s annual celebration of architecture, heritage, culture and community in 2013.

Cast back your mind to September… where did you go, who did you go with, what did you do? Out of all of the events, venues and activities that you took part in what did you enjoy the most? Once you’ve made up your mind, just email dod@scottishcivictrust.org.uk and complete this sentence…

“My favourite part of Doors Open Days 2013 was….”

Timorous Beasties is a Glasgow based Design Studio known for its surreal and provocative textiles and wallpapers. Founded in Glasgow in 1990 by Alistair McAuley and Paul Simmons, they opened their first retail shop in 2004 on the Great Western Road in Glasgow and a second shop in central London in 2007. In 2011 they produced a bespoke collection of cushions for John Lewis Department Stores, an exclusive range of textiles and home accessories for Liberty of London and home accessories for the newly refurbished National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh. They provide a bespoke service from custom colours to original artwork. All design work takes place at their Glasgow Studio, where they continue to hand-print many of their fabrics and wallpapers for customers and clients all over the world. You can also find out more about them on Facebook and Pinterest.

So, what are you waiting for? To be in with the chance of winning one of the beautiful thistle cushions pictured above, just let us know what you loved about this year’s Doors Open Days. Was it the variety of buildings? A specific event? Travelling to a new part of Scotland? Going inside a building in your local community you have never had access to before? Was it the people you met? The company you spent time with? Doing something with your family? Or something really unusual? Was it something unexpected?

Remember to email you answer to dod@scottishcivictrust.org.uk, completing the sentence “My favourite part of Doors Open Days 2013 was….”. The competition closes at 12 noon on the 30th November. Good luck everyone!

Stay tuned for our next post where I’ll be sharing some of your fantastic blog posts, articles and pictures from DOD 2013!
